Pada tahun 1991 Pemerintah menutup semua SPG di seluruh Indonesia dan SPG van Lith beralih fungsi menjadi SMA Pangudi Luhur van Lith Berasrama dengan status disamakan berdasarkan Keputusan Direktorat Jendral Pendidikan Dasar dan Menengah No. 488/C/Kep/I/92 tanggal 31 Desember 1992.
